El Fruto De Mi Trabajo

Directed by Lauren Cabanas

Synopsis

Former Cuban baseball player Lazaro Ramirez reflects on his defection from Cuba as the film follows a day in his life with his family in the United States.

Director's Statement

Everyone who immigrates to the United States arrives by a different path, and each path carries its own truth. My family is from Cuba, and across generations we have come to this country in many different ways. Growing up, I became curious about the routes others have taken and what is lost, what is carried forward, and what life looks like after arrival. When I read about Lázaro in my local newspaper, I felt an immediate pull to meet him. Hearing his story firsthand became a way for me to better understand not only his journey, but my own relationship to migration, memory, and home.
